Reading
DO: The first thing you will do is read background information on the Five Steps of the Writing Process so you can understand what they are and what is their purpose.
DO: Then you will create your own Google Docs account. All of your documents composed for this WebQuest must be shared with me on GoogleDocs.

Prewriting = Planning
Choose a topic that you will be carrying through the WebQuest.
1. Tell about a time that you learned a valuable lesson. Write a narrative about the experience.
2. Many people have a favorite gift they have received. Write to explain the best gift you have ever received and why it was so special.
3. The principal has been considering to no longer allow students to work in groups on their assignments. Do you think this a good idea? Take a position on this issue and persuade the principal to agree with you.
DO:
1. Complete a Circle Map to brainstorm your topic ideas.
2. Complete a Tree Map to organize your reasons.
3. Complete a FLEE Map to plan for your essay.
These three items should be uploaded to your GoogleDocs upon completion.

DO: Go to www.yakitome.com. Click the upload button in the top left hand corner and upload your first draft into the text reader. Put on the headphone and listen as the reader reads your essay back to you. Take notes of the errors you notice in your writing as you listen.

Revision = Fixing Content
Revising your essay means reviewing the content for clarity and organization. What do we mean by clarity? Checking for the topic sentence, explanation, example, and elaboration of course! Also an essay would not be complete without an effective thesis statement. You must maintain a constant thought throughout each body paragraph.
DO: Watch the Flocabulary video on writing thesis statements.
DO: Practice putting your sentences in a logical order by playing this game about the history of football!
DO: Now reconsider your essay. Save a separate copy of your essay to do your revising and editing on. Go back and revise any issues you might have in clarity and sentence order.

DO: Complete Exercises 1, 2, and 8 to practice editing grammar.
DO: Practice your homonyms by correcting the spelling in this spelling game.
DO: Send a link to your essay through GoogleDocs to the partner I have assigned you. They will edit your essay for the four conventions to the best of their ability.

Publishing = Rewriting
DO: After reviewing your partner's editing, open a new Word document. Rewrite a clean copy, making the changes needed from the revision and editing steps. Upload the new file to GoogleDocs.
