About Ms. Blackard
My name is Heather Blackard and I am originally from northwest Arkansas. My family moved frequently across many states when I was growing up and we finally settled in Florida. I graduated from a local high school, where I specialized in journalism and digital design. Prior to becoming a teacher, I spent several years in retail pharmacy management. I graduated from the University of Florida with two bachelor degrees, one being in English. I am certified to teach Elementary Education K-6 and English for Secondary Grades 6-12.
Ms. Blackard's Philosophy of Education
Each child has the potential to do great things. It is through education that the potential becomes realized and turns kinetic. I believe that every child should have the opportunity to receive an education, whether it is public, private, or home-schooled. Without education, one’s opportunities are limited, and it would be a travesty for a child to not be able to reach for their dreams because they were without adequate education.
A functional relationship between the parents, teachers, and student is fundamental to the growth and prosperity in the education of a child. I believe in an open and honest communication between teachers and parents. Adaptation to unique situations is key and the ability to understand a child’s needs is crucial. While some skills are taught, others are learned in time, and it is the resilience to try anything to teach a child what they need to know is what will ultimately make a difference in their lives.
I believe in education, dedicated teachers, discipline, and hard work. Nothing ever worth having is earned easily and education certainly does not come without its difficult moments. Working with a child, listening to their needs, and making them feel like they are worth the effort are the fundamentals of my philosophy of education.
