Students discussed the eight parts of speech. They named each part, defined each part (click the image to the left), and worked with examples for each part (click the image below.) Also below is an example using all eight parts of speech; the parts are color coded to match the image to the left.

Tues 11/19/13
Students created a parts of speech rainbow. (See my example below.) Students had to write 8 nouns, 7 verbs, 6 adjectives, 5 adverbs, 5 pronouns, 4 prepositions, 4 conjunctions, and 4 interjections. Students were to lightly color their rainbows with colored pencils. (If you were absent for the activity, a blank rainbow is below for you to print out and complete!)

Students revised an indicated paragraph from their mini 4. Students were put into two groups and coached on how to revised based on their "starred" paragraph.
Prompt: In a well-developed essay, discuss the short-term and long-term importance of inventions, their influence on society, and why inventors feel the need to protect their “intellectual property.” Remember to include evidence from both stories to support your argument.
