Students finished working on their shape poems that they began last week.
Tues 10/15/13
We are starting Haiku poems. Students took a small "road trip" outside to do some nature observations. Haiku poems are Japanese poems that describe nature in its simplest form. Students had to make observations about:
- Sky
- Grass
- Wind/Breeze
- trees
- birds
- bugs
Wed 10/16/13
Students started composing their Haiku poem from their nature walk observations. Haiku poems are three lines, with the syllable pattern 5-7-5. Students examined four samples prior to writing.

Thurs 10/17/13 - End of Quarter 1
Students took their nature poems (Haiku) out into nature! Each student was given a square on the sidewalk and wrote their Haiku poem on the sidewalk in chalk.
