Week of 09/09/13 - 09/12/13
Mon 09/09/13
Students began reading a text that will be a part of their mini assessment #1 this week. Students defined three key terms, and then popcorn read the text. After, students answered three questions about the text.
absolutism - government where the king or queen has final authority.
divine right - power given to kings or popes by God.
inalienable rights - rights someone has because they are a human being. They cannot be taken away.
1. Make a list of rights you believe all people in the world should share simply because they are human beings.
2. Do children share the same rights as adults?
3. Do animals and plants have "rights?"
HOMEWORK: Begin Unit 2 Week 1 vocab, it is due THURSDAY this week. No school on Friday.

Students planned for their mini assessment #1 today. Students read and unPACked the prompt. Next, they brainstormed on a circle map. Finally, they classified their ideas into categories on a tree map. All of this is part of the first step in the Writing Process, prewriting.
Prompt: Think about the inalienable rights discussed in the passage. Do you believe all people should share the same rights simply because they're human beings? Consider what life would be like without certain rights. Citing the text provided, write to explain which right you feel is most important for humanity and why.
