Students were introduced to the citing textual evidence scale. Students discussed why it is important to have evidence to back up a claim. Students then worked on parting their summarizing skills using the stories we read last week. See the examples below.
HOMEWORK: Being Unit 2 Week 1 vocab, due Friday.
If you got < 89 on your Unit 1 Vocab test, you may complete the worksheet below to add points to your test grade. DUE TOMORROW! It is your choice whether you want to do it or not. There are two sides to the sheet, I will not accept it if it is incomplete. Not being able to access Skyward is not a reason to not complete the assignment. Complete it anyway!

Students used the files above to finish their comprehension and comparison questions for the stories, "The Mystery of Round Hill Cave" and "The Legend of Old Leatherman." Students were to write the question and their answer out, as well as cite the paragraph number from the story that they found the answer in.

Students composed an essay in class regarding the two stories in the file above.
Prompt: Think about the two stories, “The Mystery of Round Hill Cave” and “The Legend of Old Leatherman.” In what way(s) could the two stories be connected? Write an essay using details from both the mystery and the legend in your response.

Today students reviewed the scales for Expository Writing and Citing Evidence. Students connected the two scales together in their own words. Students learned about the difference in explicitly stating something and making inferences. Students watched a Flocabulary video on making inferences.
